A condo smart home project starts with an assessment of what is already installed. Lighting, curtains, air-conditioning controls and existing wiring can shape the options, especially if you want to preserve a developer’s finishes or avoid a major renovation.
For a new condo, resale apartment or executive condominium, the goal is the same: create controls and routines that suit the household and fit the property.
Decide what you want to retain
List the fixtures and appliances you plan to keep. Include lighting models where available, curtain arrangements, air conditioners and any existing home controls. Photographs are helpful, but exact model numbers make compatibility discussions more useful.
Separate essential requirements from preferences. You might want whole-home lighting control immediately while considering automated curtains for a later phase. That distinction helps the installer propose a coherent scope.
Plan lighting around activities
An open living and dining space may benefit from separate lighting zones. Think about dinner, television viewing and working from home rather than treating every light as one group.
Ask how those zones will be controlled from the wall, app or a scene button. If your family wants dimming, confirm that it is supported by the selected fixtures and controls. An on-off smart switch does not automatically make a light dimmable.
Coordinate curtains and climate controls
For large windows, discuss whether separate curtain sections should open independently. The track, motor arrangement and power provision need to suit the actual window layout and curtain design.
Air-conditioning control depends on the installed system and supported interface. Ask for a demonstration of the intended commands, and clarify whether the app shows confirmed equipment status or simply sends a control command.
Design for everyone who lives there
A well-planned setup should be easy for family members and visitors to understand. Provide accessible everyday controls and avoid relying entirely on voice commands or a single person’s phone.
Choose clear scene names and decide which rooms participate. A Leaving Home scene should cover agreed devices without switching off equipment that needs to remain powered.
Check installation arrangements
Before work begins, confirm the building’s applicable renovation arrangements with management and coordinate access with your contractors. Ask the installer what work the proposed devices require and which finishes may be affected.
Network coverage also needs attention across bedrooms and enclosed spaces. Evaluate the planned installation in the actual home rather than relying on a coverage figure alone.
What should you ask for in a proposal?
Request a room-by-room scope, named device models, installation responsibilities and the routines included in setup. Clarify what training and support come with the project.
